Will robot mowers impact your lawn care business?!
THREATS
1.) Large tech player coming in to the industry for the sake of data
2.) Machine prices going down for the robot purchase
3.) Improved technology of the robots
4.) Large mowing-only properties that don’t require high levels of Customer Service
OPPORTUNITIES:
1.) Robots cant edge, blow, weed, install mulch, or trim bushes
2.) Mowing is our lowest margin service
3.) This could help with the labor issues we have and finding good employees in the lawn care industry

Cutting the grass is the most enjoyable aspect of gardening for me. The robotic lawnmowers will only take away the high end clients at first, and the type of person to have a robotic lawnmowers is somebody you wouldn’t really want to work for anyways.
Good point about Amazon and Google. Makes sense they would implement this. We have been using robots to clean most of our pools for a few years now (or our clients clean them selves manually). Some robots clean so well that the home owner just needs to brush the steps or skim a few leaves. As we dont clean pools this works well for us. I stopped cleaning pools many years ago and concentrated on pool water chemistry and filtration instead. Less labor made more sense and more profits for me. I could do way more pools by myself once I got rid of the cleaning. We now sell and maintain robots for our clients. Robots are the future and we need to find ways to use them to our advantage.
The people who only mow and weedwack that know nothing about plants or landscapes will be screwed. Everybody else will be fine. The only bad part is if most of those people who know nothing just start doing random stuff in people's yards then there will be a rise of hacks.
This is just a test but I got a like response really fast so is there a bot just hitting like on comments?
Look at it this way there's robot vacuums for your homes but it still doesn't replace all of the other work. Also there's fully automated grocery stores in japan and fully automated McDonalds in Mexico and they've been out there for years. Bottom line is don't stress about the stuff you cant control in life until its actually an issue, cause if you spend all that time thinking and worrying about the future you wont present. Don't get me wrong its good to be aware just be carful not to over think things. As always great video Mike, thank you for taking the time to share your wisdom.
wow! I see why this guy is so successful
How is the robot mower going to take over do you honestly see these people getting out their shirt and ties and dresses and weed eating these properties edging the sidewalks hell no so how in the hell is that going to put a landscaper out of business they're not going to kill everything and then check back around there sidewalks driveways flower beds grass likes to grow sideways what about leaves when they get thick oh I'm sorry you can't use your mower half the season because leaves are falling really let's be realistic how about all them holes and stuff in the yard that they don't fill in for us really I just don't see it
Robot mowers sound like a good idea until someone comes by and takes it, just like porch pirates.
The robots won't take away the customers most lawn care businesses want, the upper scale lawns. Unless robots get to where they can cut taller grass, their continuous running eliminates any pattern cutting or they end up leaving massive ruts. Upper scale customers want that striping. Robots also can't trim, edge or do other lawn maintenance.
Ok boy one thing you dont know about gps. gps wont be so precise. Gov regulation as it would be used on tactical bombing. You have gps cause usa gov let you have gps. And they wont let you have such precise gps which they use for rocket bombing. Whats why you have string. And gps in your car is also not so precise 10 or more meters off. As for business you are half right. People wont let you build any string in they yard or have any cameras or any stuff. Some companies already try and failed. But people will start buying robots from maunfact to cut yes than price go down. As for business edging, bush trimming job price will increase. Simply you will do other jobs, but not lawn.

I would go work for a lawn company but the problem is the pay isnt very good these days…. i make more money on my own…. and i hate cutting townhouse complexes because of the size of the properties i stick to single homes.
Hi Mike. I’ve installed about 100 Automowers.
👍
Love the idea of phasing into robotic mowers as the cost comes down and labor goes up.good golden nugget.
Ha that makes sense that would save us a lot of time
I am not worried and does not edge it does not trim shrubs or weeding
How about edging, wedding. Trimming and blowing. I'm 49 years old and I really hope this robots take my job
Great thoughts
I was actually concerned about this…thanks for giving out a better perspective!
Mike, I’m watching too many videos you post. You’re slowly Brainwashing Me! Lol… That’s a good thing.
I honestly think it’s at least 10 years away from affecting us on small residential lawns. The big commercial stuff is a long ways away as the technology isn’t there to have power for 72” mowers without it being very dangerous. But I do agree, it’s coming
