A video for those with iMow 632s that loses its sense of time,
resetting completely or just stop the clock when it goes in to standby.
My soldering skills are terrible and thus not shown in video, as an addition it might be a good idea to support the new “standing” position of the supercapacitor with maybe some hot glue around it so to take some stress off the solder pads on the circuit board.
Note : As of the this date of video release the replacement supercapacitors mentioned below has only been tested in the robot a couple of charge cycles and then been in standby for 2 months, so far there is no issues but will have more information after summer of 2023 when they have been running at least one season.
Update (April 2024)! Both the capacitor mentioned below and the 3v lion-ion coin cell battery still holds the clock going, so one season + one winter storage later it still works well.
Replacement supercapacitors :
I have used a model with the name DSK-3R3H204T614-H2L
These are 6.8mm in diameter and 1.4mm thick just as the original, the solder tabs are however not optimal, they are too wide, I would suggest to get the similarly rated DCK-3R3E204T614-E that has thinner solder tabs.
(Both are 3.3V and rated to 0.2-0.22F, since I don’t know the specs of the original this is just a guess based on the original capacitor physical size)
What about batterys?
Since the shape of the supercapacitor easily could be mistaken for a small Li-Ion coin cell there has been attempts to replace it with a battery.
I have not yet seen anyone say it doesn’t work but neither that it does work, but I have replaced the supercapacitor in one of my 632s with a small coin cell 3v li-ion rechargable battery to see if that works, will report back here on this as well.
And as stated, this is experimental and not a guaranteed fix, there can be other issues that caused the capacitor to fail in the first place.
