I use a 570H150 industrial timing beltโ-works great as well
My Milwaukee lawn mower does this thing on certain areas of the lawn it gets stuck and the tires just spin.
I will be trying this method.
Tried something similar to my car @ ended-up w/four flat tires! (Lol) Hey, I have some old astro-turf, wonder if I could build myself a wig?
What about a flat head screw instead of rounded
Gorilla Glue?
Thanks GG, I had the idea of doing something like this (UK ยฃ80 for two new Honda hrx 476 wheels!) but was great having your video especially for the self tapping screws and general method. I have my own gardening business now so cut a lot of grass! It's been 4 months since I put the tires on and they are still as good as the day I did it, so cheers matey!
Think about giving us an update…I do wonder if the screw heads cut thru the rubber and let the rubber pop off the screws.
I did twice this for my ancient Honda; still going strong. However, to reduce the stress on the holes made by the screws (second time) I used small washers (barely wider than the screw heads). This makes the screw a bit higher than it would be, so I first used an angle grinder (I don't have a belt sander) to reduce the head height.
It might be overkill, but it works very well.
Thanks for another excellent video!

There's a reason why the original wheels don't have very aggressive thread, not to dig into the grass. I would go with a less aggressive thread.
Cool idea but $10 mountain bike tires haven't existed for the past decade ๐๐๐คฃ๐คฃ
My Honda lawnmower does this without the extra tread. Why do you need extra grip? You're mowing level ground.
jb ! Your a genius 15 years in the biz and Iโve never thought of this, if only someone talked to a gardener before making a mower imagine
Nice!! Thanks for the idea!!
Nice
Just a silly question but would you know a trick to raise the mow height cut from 4โ to maybe 4.4-5โ on the HRX? I have st augustine grass in Florida. Thanks!!
Works great yep..two seasons now still holding . money saving tip..
Good point. But if some folks plan to scalp or cut their lawn really short for various purposes, then the additional increase in hight could be problematic. If you look at HRX's wheels, there is not much tread on the tires. The important factor is to get the traction produced by the rubber. So, a much thinner tire may suit more situations by not increasing the hight as much and still producing sufficient traction.
This does NOT work on car tires!
Putting your wet cell phone in the microwave does.
OMG! WOW YOU ARE A FREAKIN LIFE SAVER! IDK why I didn't think of this to begin with! GENIUS!! THANK YOU!
I am doing this fix tonight, and cutting the lawn tomorrow. Have some old DH MTB tires to use. Thinking about suiting up with the full face, goggels, roach pads and chest protector with some hard shell full finger gloves. I'm gonna slay that grass like a double black diamond.
i thought of doing this and wondered if someone else already came up with it, you did, nice idea.
