STIHL’s new range of 4 series petrol- powered lawnmowers are designed for domestic users with medium to large sized lawns to take care of. They’re packed full of features to help you get a great quality finish on the lawn, whilst being easy to operate and simple to manoeuvre around the garden.
The 4 series range has several mowers with different sized sturdy and lightweight polymer decks, with each deck size indicated by the model’s name. The STIHL RM 443 has a 43 cm deck, RM 448 has a 48cm deck and the RMA 453 has a 53 cm deck.
If the 4 series mower has a T in the model name, it has one speed drive, whilst models with a V have variable speed drive so you can adapt the speed to the lawn, if you need to mow more slowly in tricky to navigate areas. Vario drive models allow you to easily vary the speed of the mower between 2 and 4.5 km/h per using a simple lever on the bar.
A good lawn mower is made up of a combination of factors. Firstly, the mower blade needs to be designed to give sufficient lift to the grass to make sure it stands up straight for a precise cut on the lawn. For this lift, there needs to be good airflow under the deck of the mower, and enough flow generated so if you’re collecting your cuttings, they can be directed into the collection box. All STIHL lawn mowers are designed with this in mind, as well as ease of use.
All models feature our mono-handlebar which makes it simple to access, remove and replace the grass catcher box, as you don’t need to crouch or stretch underneath where the other bar would be. This mono handlebar is incredibly sturdy but is simple to fold so when you’ve finished mowing, you can fold it over to save space.
All new STIHL 4 series petrol mowers have a 4 in 1 mowing function so you can choose to cut and collect the clippings, cut and drop the clippings, mulch the clippings by returning the fine clippings back to the lawn or you can side discharge by opening the side flap and adding the chute which is included with the mower. You don’t need a mulch plug if you want to mulch either, there’s a handy switch on the mower which blocks the grass box, so you can easily make the switch while you’re mowing depending on your preference.
The polymer box has many key benefits including great air flow to fill the grass box. All vents on the petrol 4 series mowers face downwards so all dust is directed towards the ground. On top there’s a fill indicator which drops when the box is full, reminding you to empty it. The box is simple to open and empty the grass cuttings too. Simply grab the handles and release the switch to open it up like a clamshell. A polymer box is also simple to clean out and dries quickly too.
All 4 series petrol models have a tough polymer deck, and most of the rest of the mower is made from high grade polymer or steel components, so they are light and easily manoeuvrable. The design also means that pivoting at the end of the lawn is very easy and requires minimal effort.
The mowing height is adjusted simply with the help of our single point height adjustment. Just pop your hand under the bar and lift to raise the cutting height, or gently press down to lower it. The mowing height can be adjusted from 20-100mm too, making them well suited to many different lawns and easily adjustable through the seasons.
To keep the mower’s wheels moving freely, we’ve fitted double ball bearing wheels which have a great service life and help keep the mower moving easily, and straight for longer. Some additional accessories for the petrol 4 series mowers include the STIHL RM care kits, which include a cleaning spray, cloth and a brush to scrape grass from the deck, keeping it working as intended for longer.

Does it have a deck wash?
Way to heavy, way to much plastic, and that one armed handlebar is ridiculous. Stihl used to build quality heavy duty equipment, now it's just pretty and shiny.
So how will the polymer deck hold up to the occasional stick i hit in my yard or that hidden rock
Which Engine? Briggs or Loncin?
Yikes, she's got a Kardashian vocal fry like a piece of coal trapped under a shed door.
I have just got the rm448v petrol machine
And tbh I feel it’s very underpowered. Love the machine except that issue
hello, I would like to use the lawnmower in the yard and in the garden on a relatively large area, my garden is a bit uneven, do you recommend this lawnmower or something more powerful?
When will stock on 453v be readily available for supply
Are you going to make one of these in comparison with the current 655vs in terms of engine power and grass box capacity. I like the mulching function on this new model. Just make sure you don’t change how well they pick up wet grass and keep your focus on that and you will go far. A proper high lift blade would be good to see for bagging.
So what’s the difference between this and the 2 series apart from the price of both petrol and both same size deck ?
