For the last 4 seasons I have been saying a robotic mower that does not need wires in the ground will change the industry forever. well it seems like Toro did me one better. no wires and no GPS. is this true A I or something else?

  1. Revolutionary ? This is no different than vaccum cleaners that were available quite a while ago and probably for much lower price. It looks like it is still not yet available…

  2. Now for the real questions:

    * is it AWD or do just the rear wheels work?
    * how big of a slope can it handle?
    * do the wheels slip when it's on a slope?
    * how sensitive is the robot? Meaning, if it hits a "pothole" in the lawn, will it stop and complain? What about a bump? Will it stop and complain that the mower was lifted? What about if it runs over a tree root? Will it get stuck on it or is it robust enough to get itself off?
    * What happens if it slips while it's near the boundary, then finds itself outside of its perimeter? Will it recognize, "Hey, my area is over there" and drive back to it and continue cutting? Or will it basically say, "I'm not familiar with this area. Come save me please!"?

I don't want to see this running on carpet. I want to see real tests.

  3. There is no easy way of doing it. Either wire, gps or fancy ahrs combined with local transmitter. Cameras will be covered by dust and you will end up with a blind robot lost in the yard.

  4. Pricing in a couple weeks, that was 4 months ago TORO…… wtf, I'm looking to get a Robo mower, but you're not giving any info. Ecoflow, Segway are taking orders, get with it!

  5. Luba right now looks the most promising however without a dealer/service network, I dont know that many will buy in at $2700 for an AWD model that may have electronic parts fail, drive motors fail etc with no resource unless you have a friend in China. Toro, being a nationally recognized brand in the US would instantly garner brand recognition and likely could demand 50% more than the average brand just based on name alone. That said, they must be careful as they must release something that is competitive yet reliable and works well.
Notice there was no mention of striping. RTK does striping. So if they are abandoning striping and relying on cameras alone, I would be concerned how reliable this would be. The Luba uses RTK AND Cameras AND five sensors. That's alot of tech. But it has yet to be sold to anyone who can say if for sure it is the real deal sans a few beta testers.
I really have high hopes for this mower, but spring is here and we are only 1.5 months from summer so….where's it at? What's the update?
