Honda Electric Mower: Big Mistake? šŸ”‹ | Robot Maniak

Honda Electric Mower: Big Mistake? šŸ”‹

I finally got my hands on the new Honda electric mower to see if it actually lives up to the reputation of their legendary gas engines. Honda has dominated the backyard for decades, but switching to battery power is a massive gamble.
In this video, I’m putting it to the test on a standard suburban lawn to see if the cut quality and battery life actually justify the price tag. Is it time to ditch the gas can for good, or is Honda overreaching? Let me know in the comments if you’re staying gas-powered or making the switch this year.

  1. I’m on my 2nd hydrostatic Honda, and it’s due for rings. I had opportunity to use my brother’s Ego mower and it’s kinda handy. Since most of my mechanic and carpentry tools are Milwaukee I decided to try one of their mowers. So far I really like the thing. Feels a bit heavier than the Ego but I feel it cuts a bit better, maybe develops a bit more airflow. Anyhow as long as the large lawn isn’t overgrown it will do it on one charge with the blade always on high.

Don’t know if Honda’s electric is good or not, but I suspect a lot of people are invested in Milwaukee or Dewalt battery platforms and would prefer yard tools that can share the same packs.

  2. In other news, newly hired Honda executive Alissa Heinerscheid has signed Dylan Mulvaney to do commercials for Honda's new line of mowers. Rumor has it Bud Light will team up with Honda on their commercials…

  3. I have a 37 yr old John Deere 14SB walk-behind,. It's always mowed church yards, vacationing or sick neighbor yards, etc. Its Kawasaki engine, with spin on oil filter, using synthetic 20w-50 still uses no oil between changes (!). Four seasons ago I bought a Greenworks 80v electric from Costco… and I have to say, there IS A PLACE for electric yard tools for standard sized residential lots. I'm never worried about 'will it start' every spring.. and at 81 yrs old now, I don't have to strain to start it. šŸ™‚ HOWEVER … I like to keep the old 'gas rig' on hand just for 'standby', and an affection(?) for such durability. I mowed the lawn with it just this week …sort of like driving an old 'classic car' just for the joy of using something so faithful, that still runs well. It's had all 4 wheels replaced, and the recoil starter roped gave out a few years ago, but all those after the 30 year mark!! I bought it new in1989.
So far, charging batteries immediately after mowing, with the Greeeworks, I've had no sign of battery degradation and (shockingly!) it has power equal to the Kawasaki'd John Deere (!). Costco pushed the warranty on the batteries from 4 to 8 years at the time I bought it…. But, it's got a long way to go to catch up with the old 'classic' John Deere šŸ™‚

  4. Yes, it was a mistake.
It didnt make much sense for them to spend the money and effort to redesign thier gas engines, only to abandon them about 5 years later. They were probably afraid that if they offered a choice between gas and electric, electric mower sales would be a flop. So they decided to eliminate one, thinking Honda loyalists would eventually switch. I like my cordless string trimmer and leaf blower. But I will keep my HRN216 as long as I can get parts for it.

  5. I have been saving up for a mower. Was definitely be a Honda gas. Just found out today. Day late and a dollar short is there anything compatible? All I have ever owned is Honda

  6. When I heard they were discontinuing the gas mower line, I bought two of them in ā€˜23 so I’d have a gas Honda mower for the future.āœŒļø. I’m sure they are good but it’s not for me.šŸ˜‰
