This ROBOT Mowed My Yard For 2 Years: Here’s What Happened

I didn’t want to mow my yard or pay a lawn company to do it, so why can’t we automate the worst part of home ownership? I met my first robot mower when I was about 10 years old, it was horrible, the controls were wired, you had to walk around your yard and program it, and it was so expensive no one bought them. Fast forward to 2020 and robot mowers are just Roombas with spinning razor blades. I bought the Worx 150 on Amazon, spent a couple hours setting it up and let it loose. It’s been 2 years since it started mowing, here are my thoughts on it.

  1. One more thing to add… the neighbors loved this thing, everyone would stop to talk about it, they would help if it got stuck, that was a lot of fun. Other times it would get stuck while I was out of town and I'd have to ask Gabe to move it back to the charging base so it wouldn't just be sitting out for a week. You basically have to "roomba proof" your yard to run it with no intervention. 🍻

  2. You should have bought a Husquvarna, my mum has 3/4 acres, does hers in 2 days, then just tops up during the week on a regular 2hours/day schedule. Grass is green, Moss free beautiful

  3. Been using a moebot robot mower exclusively on my yard for 18 months. Does a great job. Your issues seem to be having a single "zone" for such a huge area, plus that you didn't lay the wire per the instructions as you said near the end. You should split your yard into a "front" and a "back" zone, and lay the wire so it doesn't miss the charger. Then program it to do the different zones separately, maybe on alternating days.

  4. You have to prépare your terrain for the robot. Mine would get stuck here and there to then i fixed it now doesnt get stuck anymore and mine is à cheap one .

  5. The yard looks terrible. It depends on the homeowners and also on the yard service. If you get your average grass cuter of $100 a month, a guy, you’ll get 100 dollars in service. I always keep an eye out for weeds and moles. Good thing they aren't there yet, and dangerous little mowers if you have cable or irrigation.

  6. I guess I like mowing my yard enough that I’ll probably never get one of those robots. If I don’t have time for it, I’ll pay someone. Call me old fashioned, and no, I’m not a boomer.

  7. as a professional landscaper I can tell you without even an inkling of doubt that the sharper the lawn mower blade the faster it dulls… what you actually want is a flat bottom and an angled point on the top so that the angle meets the bottom at a point but is not razor sharp that will last much longer than something that has been sharpened to a high degree. in other words you have much less of a bevel then usually associated with desired sharpness.

  8. How hard is it to more your own shit you have a small yard?.. And you pay for lawn service.. Talk about a lazy ass… Using that junk you deserve you lawn looking like absolute garbage

  9. Those thing also have no vacuum under the deck to lift the blades to get an even cut. Im surprised somebody so mechanically inclined just doesnt buy a used commercial 36" or 48" deck walk behind mower with hydraulic drive and steering. You'd be done in literally 15 minutes with that size yard, and no clippings because they mulch.

  10. Please help my son was wearing green and the lawn mower killed him. I called for a refund but the customer service was intelligent AI and denied my request because it is not broken. I need this dealt with before st Patrick's day.

  11. I love my robo mower. I even love just sitting in the lawn and watching it, very relaxing. But i hate the guide wire. I wish you could turn off the guide wire feature because all of my back yard is fenced in.

  12. You installed it wrong and didn't used it properly. It works great 👍 for the purposes. This lawmower save me a lot times. All I do is trimmed and edge weekly. Also, you still need to take care your grass.
